A builder's background.
David Cunningham's career has moved from writing software to building companies, while keeping the technical work close. His experience spans developer tools, business intelligence, medical information systems, software communities, and autonomous vehicles.
He founded Dundas in 1992 and grew it from a one-person venture into a global software business. Over three decades he worked as a developer, product leader, CEO, and Board Chair, helping create successive generations of software components, data-visualization tools, and embedded analytics products.
In 2007, he led the sale of Dundas charting and data-visualization intellectual property to Microsoft for use in SQL Server and other products. Dundas continued as an independent business and was acquired by insightsoftware in 2022.
Building for people who build.
David co-founded CodeProject in 1999, helping create a professional community that grew to more than 15 million registered software developers. His work with DeveloperMedia also connected technology companies with the people building on their platforms.
Earlier, he co-founded Focus Medical Systems, developing software for physician practices, radiology, and medical research before its acquisition by HealthScreen Solutions. His simulation experience reaches back to the early 1980s, when he wrote training systems supporting the NORAD SAGE-to-ROCC/SOCC transition at CFB North Bay.
Back to the workbench.
Founded in 2016, Endless Loop became a home for David's research into software, AI, and physical systems. That work includes RobotCrew, autonomous-vehicle concepts, and the simulator prototype featured in the lab.
As Co-founder and Chief Strategy & Research Officer at AirMetal Robotics, he works across product strategy, AI, robotics, and advanced manufacturing. He also serves on the Board of the Ontario Centre of Innovation and chairs its AI Steering Committee, bringing a product builder's perspective to AI adoption and commercialization.
The thread through it all is practical curiosity: understand the problem, build something useful, learn from the result, and do it again.
